Group photo taken of the dentists and hygienists taken just as we got to the building. Great group of individuals that want to serve without recognition or accolades. |
|
Group photo of the dental assistants. The cutest one is in the front in the middle in dark blue. Some are students wanting to get experience before applying to hygiene or dental school, some are children or spouses, and others are just there to help where needed...er... they ALL want to help - so don't read that the wrong way. |

Our first patient of the day, Genesis.. And we were excited thinking our next patients would be Exodus, Levitcus and Numbers. We laughed about "numb-ers" and how fitting that would be for us. So the next patient was named Yuni - which means exodus in Spanish ! No. |
|
Several patients later ( we will list all their names at the end of this post ) - Elmer Carrenza wanted me to sign his shirt and we explained that was too much, but I did agree to sign the back of his new tie. We laughed when we saw the photo-bomber in the back after the picture. |

Alex Ordenez was one of our favorites with no cavities. Next time we will bring stickers or something to give them as a reward. Maybe a medal or something. So please remind us as we tend to forget. I did print and bring little post- operative cards to give to the patients that received restorations and anesthetic and those are popular. I will try and get a picture of them on the next post. I was told by one of the front desk checkout helpers that one of our patients cried when they read the card - and we were touched to hear that and grateful that they came and told us about the experience. A tender mercy. We will translate what we wrote in next post as well. |

David with his friend Moroni. We had a fun time teasing them and they teased us as well. One of them stumped us with a request after we finished with him and we could not understand what he was asking for. Turns out he was asking for his lollipop for being a good patient. And now we know how to say lollipop in Spanish. Unless we forget. |

This 11 year old girl has carried her younger brother who is crippled everywhere - even to church - for his entire life until today when we presented them with a wheelchair. Not too many dry eyes in the building. We wonder how many of us are in need of being carried and do not utilize the carrying power of the Savior. What a blessing for these two children of God. |

Okay, you are wondering about the title of this post. " I love to look for rainbows." Susan has color coded all the materials in these cups so I just have to ask for a color for a specific treatment. Well, if we are given a patient that needs many restorations, I just state - RAINBOW - and she knows that we are going to use everything. Maybe we should have used a different word because now we both cringe a little bit when we hear the word ......rainbow. |
|
Lillian Espinoza - the cute little 80-pounder that Susan wanted to stuff in a suitcase and bring home. But then we remembered we already had cute 80-pounders at home so we let her go. |
|
Ana Morazon - I asked her about seminary classes and it turns out they they meet only on Saturdays for a two hour class. I suspect that there are some transportation and safety issues. |
|
Byron, one of our guards at the building just checking in with us to ensure our safety. Sometimes we feel like we are in jail with the bars on the windows, armed guards around the building and guards inside the building. But the food is much better here than in jail so we know that is not the case ..... There are so many Honduran people involved with planning and logistics of this trip that we are just the tip of a huge iceberg that supports this effort and that we really don't deserve praise and adoration ( we of course would not reject it ) - because none of this could happen without the dedication and sacrifice of many others. |
The names of the youth we treated today - Genesis, Yuri, Douglas, Andrea, Maycol, Elmer, Alex, David, Estefanny, Eddie Illich, Lillian, Ana and Ruth.
